1.A Briefing Meeting
It's called by the manager to instruct his/her subordinates to undertake a particular tasks.
It's characterized by:
a.giving instruction and information
b.clearing up misunderstandings
c.integrating ideas and views where appropriate
2.An Advisory Meeting
It's called essentially for the exchange of information (not a decision meeting).
It's characterized by:
a.seeking advice about a problem
b.information others about ideas
c.listening to views
3.A Council Meeting
It's held between people of equal standing who have some professional knowledge / skill to contribute to the matter in hand.
It's characterized by:
a.decisions being made by concencus
b.accountability lying with the group
c.resolving differences by 'talking through' them
4. A Committee Meeting
It's one in which representatives from various groups or interests meet on a roughly equal footing to make decisions on matters of common concern.
It's characterized by:
a.a sense of authority
b.differences ultimately being resolved by voting
c.compromises being common
5. A Negotiating Meeting
It's one in which representatives of different interests meet, but decisions are made more on a bargaining basis than by voting.
It's characterized by:
a.decisions being taken on aliquid pro quo basis
b.each side having different but overlapping aims
c.each side seeking to achieve best terms for it self
